Alfa Romeo built racing and sports cars in Milan from 1910, passed through state ownership under IRI, and became a Fiat brand in 1986. It shows how engineering reputation can survive decades of losses and changing owners. The literature is largely model-by-model marque history, of which Tabucchi's centenary volume is the most complete.
