Marcus Aurelius · 1626
Stoic notebooks on self-command and what is within your control
“Ferriss has cited this more than almost any other book — on the podcast, in interviews, and in Tools of Titans. He reads it annually and recommends the Gregory Hays translation. The appeal is practical: Marcus wrote it as a private journal to hold himself accountable, not as philosophy for publication.”Tim Ferriss
William B. Irvine · 2009
Modern Stoicism; desire management and negative visualisation
“…books I've recommended, highlighted to death, or forced on friends.”Andrew Wilkinson
Lucius Seneca · 2016
“Seneca's Stoic essays on time and attention recur throughout The Marginalian. Popova reads him as a contemporary — his observation that we act as if life is long while wasting its hours applies, she argues, more urgently now than when he wrote it.”Maria Popova
