Third Avenue's live site (thirdave.com/shareholder-letters) starts at 2016, but two other archives hold Whitman's letters. (1) The Wayback Machine preserves the firm's old quarterly shareholder-letter PDFs at thirdave.com/ta/documents/sl/shareholderletters-YYQn.pdf, a continuous run from Q1 2003 to Q2 2010 plus the separately named 2010-2012 files, every one of which opens with Whitman's Chairman's letter. (2) SEC EDGAR: Third Avenue Trust, CIK 0001031661, filed the same shareholder reports as N-CSR and N-CSRS from January 2004 through June 2012, the whole of Whitman's period as chairman, and each carries his letter. Whitman handed over portfolio management in 2012 and died in 2018.
