The best books on Capitalism, markets and political economy 26

John Restakis · 2010
The global co-operative sector and how member ownership works.
Marjorie Kelly · 2012
Survey of member, employee and trust ownership and how each pays out.
Jessica Gordon Nembhard · 2014
African American co-operative economics, a history largely written out.
Milton Friedman · 1962
Friedman's most systematic statement of the classical-liberal case: that economic and political freedom are inseparable, and that government intervention, however well-intentioned, typically produces worse outcomes than markets. Controversial on education vouchers and monetary policy; influential on both.
Recommended byMarc Andreessen
Milton Friedman, Rose Friedman · 1980
The popular companion to Capitalism and Freedom, written with Rose Friedman. More accessible and more polemical. Best read as a rhetorical document as much as an economic one — it shows how free-market ideas get translated into public argument, for better and worse.
Johan Norberg
Johan Norberg's direct defense of global capitalism against its critics. Norberg engages seriously with inequality, labor conditions, and environmental objections rather than ignoring them. The most current and combative of the foundational texts on this list.
F.A. Harper · 1957
Recommended byCharles Koch
George Gilder · 1992
Supply-side case for entrepreneurs as the actual source of growth
“on how economic systems that encourage aggressive entrepreneurship build the most for the benefit of the most”Marc Andreessen
Recommended byMarc Andreessen
Peter Drucker · 1993
Essay collection; not returned by the Open Library author query
Bryan Caplan · 2007
Systematic voter bias about economics, and why democracies choose badly
“The median American is a moderate national socialist – statist to the core on both economic and social policy.”Marc Andreessen
Ha-Joon Chang · 2010
Heterodox economist's case against free-market assumptions
Recommended byMorgan Housel
Alastair Smith, Bruce de Mesquita · 2011
