Scuttlebutt

DMCA notices

Last updated 3 November 2026

Scuttlebutt respects copyright. If something on the site, or something it links to or shows, infringes a copyright you own or act for, send us a notice as set out below and we will remove or disable it. We answer every notice, and we end the access of anyone who infringes again and again.

Where to send a notice

Send it with the Feedback button on the research platform, choosing “Report an issue” and starting the subject with “DMCA”. It reaches The Golden Age directly.

What a notice must contain

What we do

When a notice is complete we remove or disable the material promptly, tell the person who added it where we can, and keep a record of the notice. Most of what the site holds is links to the owner’s own pages; for those we remove the link.

Counter-notices

If you believe material was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to the same address with: your signature; the material removed and where it appeared; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; and your name, address and telephone number, with a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, outside the United States, any district where The Golden Age may be found) and will accept service from the person who sent the notice. We restore the material 10 to 14 business days after we receive a valid counter-notice unless the sender tells us they have filed a court action.

Before you send one

A notice that knowingly misstates that material infringes can make its sender liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). If you are unsure whether a use infringes, take advice first. See also our copyright and sources page.
