Daryl Collins, Jonathan Morduch, Stuart Rutherford, Orlanda Ruthven · 2009
Financial diaries showing how poor Bangladeshi households actually manage money.
Recommended byMark Zuckerberg
Lynda Gratton, Andrew Scott · 2016
What longer lives do to savings, work and the products people buy.
J. Paul Getty · 1965
Recommended byMohnish Pabrai
Vicki Robin, Joe Dominguez · 1992
Robin and Dominguez reframe the core question from 'how do I manage money?' to 'what is money exchanged for?' The life-energy accounting method they introduce is less a budgeting tool than a values-clarification exercise — one that makes the link between spending and identity concrete and trackable.
Thomas J. Stanley, William D. Danko · 1996
Thomas Stanley and William Danko's 1996 research-based portrait of actual American millionaires found them living in ordinary neighborhoods, driving used cars, and running unglamorous businesses. The book's lasting value is empirical: it provides data against the cultural image of wealth as consumption, and it directly informs how the FIRE movement thinks about lifestyle design.
J.L. Collins · 2000
JL Collins distilled his 'stock series' blog posts into this short, opinionated guide. The core advice is stark: invest in VTSAX, avoid debt, and ignore the noise. Collins wrote it as a letter to his daughter, and that framing keeps it practical rather than academic. The FIRE community treats it as essential background reading.

Felix Dennis · 2006
“Rated 9/10; he calls it the most honest, no-BS book on actually building wealth.”Derek Sivers
Ramit Sethi · 2009
Sethi's contribution to money psychology is behavioral rather than analytical: he designs financial systems that work with human laziness and inconsistency rather than against them. His argument that automation beats willpower as a financial strategy is well-supported by the literature on ego depletion and habit formation.
Alexander Green · 2011
Recommended byAli Abdaal
Tony Robbins · 2014
Interviews with large allocators packaged as retail portfolio advice
“it was a great book because what Tony did was to take concepts and make them very clearly conveyed for the average reader”Ray Dalio
Morgan Housel · 2020
Short essays on why behaviour beats analysis in determining outcomes.
“…books I've recommended, highlighted to death, or forced on friends.”Andrew Wilkinson
Whitney Tilson · 2021
