The best books on Cognitive biases, judgement and decisions 52

Daniel Kahneman, Amos Tversky · 2000
Edited volume; Open Library lists first publication 1985.
Philip E. Tetlock · 2005
The twenty-year study showing expert prediction barely beats chance.
“All pundits and commentators should publish their prediction track records, yet don't. What to pay attention to and what to ignore.”Marc Andreessen
Charlie Munger · 2005
Edited by Peter Kaufman; expanded Stripe Press edition published 2023.
“You will never find a book with more useful ideas.”Warren Buffett
Barry Schwartz · 2004
Why more options reduce satisfaction and worsen decisions
“It is almost ten years since Barry Schwartz published his popular psychology book "The Paradox of Choice".”Nick Sleep
Dan Ariely · 2012
Ariely's research on cheating shows that most people will bend rules slightly but not dramatically — a finding that complicates simple models of self-interest. His fudge factor theory is at odds with rational-choice accounts of honesty.

Frank Partnoy · 2012
Recommended byTom Peters
Nate Silver · 2024
Long treatment of Bankman-Fried and the expected-value culture he ran on.
Carol Tavris, Elliot Aronson · 2007
Tavris and Aronson focus on what happens after a bias fires: the self-justification, narrative revision, and escalating commitment that follow. Cognitive dissonance, they argue, is not a personality flaw but a universal mechanism, and understanding it explains police misconduct, political tribalism, and therapy failures in a single framework.
Peter Bevelin · 2007
Builds out Munger's latticework idea from primary sources.
“We've added a few titles this year. Among them are Seeking Wisdom: From Darwin to Munger by Peter Bevelin”Warren Buffett
Peter Bevelin · 2013
Bevelin distilling observation and inference habits from Sherlock Holmes
Philip E. Tetlock, Dan Gardner · 2015
The Good Judgment Project; the practices that measurably improve forecasts.
Peter Bevelin · 2016
Dialogue form; Munger's inversion habit worked through systematically.
Michael Lewis · 2016
Michael Lewis's account of the Kahneman-Tversky collaboration works as intellectual biography and as a second path through the research for readers who find academic writing slow. The friendship and its eventual fracture clarifies how two very different minds produced work that neither could have done alone.
Hugo Mercier, Dan Sperber · 2017
Daniel Kahneman, Olivier Sibony, Cass R. Sunstein · 2021
Kahneman died 27 March 2024; this was his last book.
Stuart Sutherland
First published in 1992 and less famous than it deserves to be. Sutherland was a psychologist at Sussex who synthesized experimental evidence from social psychology, cognitive science, and psychiatry into a single readable volume. His treatment of in-group bias, obedience research, and medical decision-making fills gaps that the Kahneman-focused literature tends to leave.
David McRaney
McRaney's blog turned book is the most self-deprecating entry on the list — each chapter names a bias, explains the research, and shows how the author himself falls for it. The format is reductive but effective for readers who want a broad survey without the weight of the primary sources.
Daniel Kahneman, Paul Slovic, Amos Tversky · 1982
Edited volume; Open Library lists first publication 1981.
Recommended byAdam Robinson
Nassim Nicholas Taleb · 2001
Incerto volume 1
“In his wonderful book, Fooled by Randomness, Nassim Taleb relates an anecdote that beautifully drives home the expected value message.”Michael Mauboussin
Laurence Gonzales · 2003
Who lives and who dies in extreme situations, and why
Brian Wansink · 2006
Recommended byRamit Sethi
Phil Rosenzweig · 2007
“Phil Rosenzweig's must-read book, The Halo Effect, shows this idea is alive and well in the business world.”Michael Mauboussin
